timeline

2010: Anaí and Jen meet. You just know "the One" when you see her, so we were engaged before the end of the year. And of course, adopted our rescue dog, and resident knucklehead, Keaton.

2011: Married in September, and bought our first house shortly after. Cue massive amounts of renovations.

2012: First trip to Guatemala together! Anaí introduces Jen to the whole family and there is much fun on beaches and exploring.

2013: Start of the serious discussions about having children. We know that we will be back in Guatemala soon, so we begin to Google our options: is it cheaper or better to go to Guatemala or stay closer to home with the clinic three hours drive away from us? Meanwhile, a major flood threatens our home and derails a lot of plans, and we decide to move.

2014: We look for a new house and find a perfect family-friendly stunner, renewing our thoughts of children. We visit Guatemala again in January for our sister's wedding, but put any plans of IUI on the back burner until after the festivities. In the spring, we apply to be seen at a local fertility clinic and are told it is a 4 to 6 month wait. In that time we visit Billings, MT across the border only to be told that as Canadians we have no access to sperm bank materials. The call from the local clinic never comes.

2015: We have a long talk in the early new year that reminds us priorities should be family first, jobs second (or maybe like seventeenth). We crunch numbers and decide if the local clinic is a crap shoot, we should set our sights on Guatemala. Bosses are notified (and some are less than pleased) but a two month leave of absence is approved for us! We locate a clinic in Guatemala that can do IUI, and they return a prompt response of "Whenever you're ready!" Yes!! Our family in Guatemala is more than willing to help us with whatever we need so we set a date for mid-April, giving ourselves four months to prepare.

April 2015: IUI #1 for Jenni. Spontaneous cycle (unmedicated). BFN
April 2015: IUI #1 for Anai BFP!! First ultrasound scheduled May 29th.
May 2015:  IUI #2 for Jenni. 2 doses of Femara, trigger shot. BFN
May 29 2015: Ultrasound for Anai shows ectopic pregnancy. Loss of baby Poppy; emergency surgery to remove left tube.
June 2015: IUI #3 for Jenni, 100mg of Clomid, trigger shot. BFN
June 2015: IUI #2 for Anai, 100mg of Clomid, trigger shot. BFP followed by miscarriage two days later.

Current: On our way to fulfilling our dreams of having a family
